Print on Demand (POD) Combining print technology with inventory management
Starburst Printing offers fast, affordable and cutting-edge Print-on-Demand services.
Print-on-Demand (POD) combines print technology (digital and offset) with print inventory management to give customers the ability to more effectively manage their ongoing printing needs.
POD is an important service to customers with multiple print projects that need to be regularly updated, scheduled and ordered to precise quantities.
Starburst works closely with customer teams to anticipate demand, review inventory, schedule new print order and repeat orders, maintain artwork, manage print costs and provide ongoing updates and communications.
Print on Demand can be a critical management tool for medical device and pharmaceutical firms with regulatory requirements for the printing of IFU (Instructions for Use) package inserts.
Digital AND Offset Printing Print on Demand customers may use both digital and offset printing – depending on the type of project being printed.
High volume and complex projects are generally printed on our offset presses. Lower volume printing and projects requiring personalization, customization and versioning are best handled by our digital presses.
Digital printing offers the added advantage of being able to print in very small and precise quantities – even one piece if that’s all you need. This all but eliminates the need for over-printing and warehousing of extra stock that may or may not be used in the future.
POD offers customers the following benefits
Lower print costs
Reduced inventory and warehousing
Less waste of paper, ink and chemicals
Improved customer control and management of printing projects
Who uses POD?
Print on Demand can be used by many different customers with different needs. Here are just a few …
Trade show exhibitors – You can keep all of your brochures and handouts on file, then select the items you want for a particular show and order just enough for that show.
Sales teams – If you want to give each member of your sales team personalized literature, you can store the core document with us, the digitally personalize the materials for each individual sales rep.
Distributors and reps – For companies that sell through third-party distributors or independent sales representatives, POD allows you to manage multiple versions of marketing materials and provide those important representatives with customized literature.
Marketing planners – Marketing messages are almost never “all things for all people.” More often than not, they are customized to different audiences and by different applications.
Human resource managers – The work of the Human Resources department requires all kinds of paperwork – forms, documents, manuals, explainer materials. Paperwork becomes easy when you can manage all your print needs through a single source.
Colleges and universities – Many programs and classes need to distribute relevant information to small groups of students. POD allows you to store those documents with us, then update new versions every year and order just the quantity you need.
Seminar presenters – While your seminar content may remain the same, it’s good to be able to provide handouts that are specific to your audience. POD allows you to customize your handouts and print the right quantity for your talk.
Business & trade associations – Managing a business or trade association is all about membership communications. And that means the production of all types of printed literature – in relatively small quantities. The perfect opportunity for POD usage.
Medical device/pharmaceutical IFU inserts – Regulatory requirements for IFU (Instructions for Use) package inserts are very strict. As an ISO 9001 certified printing company, Starburst works with medical device and pharmaceutical companies in the printing and production of these important print projects.
